Stop Waiting for Your Phone to Ring

Ten years ago, I found myself in a new area, completely alone and unsure of how to generate leads for my wedding photography business. I was surrounded by unfamiliar faces and venues, and I had a daunting question: How am I going to get clients when I literally know no one?
Take Action, Not Just Space
Instead of waiting for the phone to ring, I decided to take control. I began a journey of exploration by visiting every free venue I could find—a friend’s barn, a backyard barbecue, even a classic car show. It was during these outings that I started to set up mock weddings, gathering people in wedding attire and creating vibrant, engaging shoots.
I reached out to fellow creators, florists, and bakers, all eager to collaborate. I would say, “Hey, you want to grow your account? I want to grow mine too!” This willingness to connect and create led to a flourishing network of talented individuals and opened doors to opportunities I had never imagined.
The Power of Creativity and Community
From these creative events, I discovered the magic of publishing and lead generation. Instead of sitting idly by, I transformed my approach. Just like the famous meme says: Just do it.
If you’re waiting for something to happen, I encourage you to create your own opportunities. Organize meetups, workshops, or themed mini sessions. Offer a space where people can come together, share ideas, and, most importantly, connect.
Discipline Is Key
Building a business is not a one-time effort; it requires daily discipline. Just like getting fit, there’s no quick fix. You don’t eat one salad and expect to have a six-pack a year later. It’s about setting achievable goals and consistently working towards them. Every day, think about how you can grow your business—follow people, engage with them, and share your journey.
Recently, I spoke with someone who had been in the business for six years but felt stuck. I asked about their daily discipline—were they posting regularly? Were they putting their face in front of the camera? The answer was no, and that’s when I realized the importance of visibility.
Embrace Imperfection
You don’t have to look perfect to create content. I often film videos without makeup, fresh out of the shower or post-gym. The key is authenticity. Don’t let the fear of imperfection hold you back. Keep pushing and creating.
If you’re a creator waiting for your phone to ring, it’s time to take charge. Start setting realistic goals for yourself and actively create and post. Announce where you’ll be and what you’re offering—“Meet me here for my mini sessions!”
Take Action Now
Start blasting your message across social media and other platforms. The world is waiting for you to show up and share your passion. Remember, growth comes from action, not inaction.
So, go out there and make things happen. Have an awesome day, stay creative, and remember: your success is just a step away
